Haddie, a one-eyed dog nicknamed as the “pirate dog,” was rescued by her new owner, Erin Williams, 36, from Washington D.C. Haddie was a victim of illegal dog fighting and had lost half of her face, leaving her with only one eye. Her new owner gave her love and care, helping her overcome her fear of other dogs. Haddie now enjoys playing with other dogs in the park and has become a real dog’s dog. Erin shares that she is heartened by Haddie’s transformation and their happy life together.

The picture of Erin Williams’ dog, Haddie, is heart-wrenching. Haddie was discovered on the pet adoption website petfinder.com by Erin back in August 2020. Erin couldn’t stop thinking about her and decided to rescue her from Mutt Scouts in South California, where she had been taken by a good Samaritan. Haddie had injuries all over her body, but the worst were on her face. A doctor determined that she had been used as a “bait dog” due to her injuries and temperament. This awful practice involves dog fighters forcing their fighting dogs to attack bait dogs like Haddie relentlessly to train them. Erin is adamant that all the animals involved in dog fighting operations are victims.
On social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, Haddie has gained popularity as the ‘pirate dog’. Her inseparable bond with her owner Erin started when Mutt Scouts matched them together. Erin did not know Haddie’s original birth date, so she chose to celebrate it on January 19, which is Dolly Parton’s birthday. While Haddie was initially described as sweet and goofy, she had an intense fear of other dogs that caused her uncontrollable shaking at the sound or sight of their presence. To help Haddie overcome this fear, Erin sought the help of a dog trainer. With patience, hot dogs, and gradual exposure to other dogs, Haddie learned to associate them with safety and treats. Erin attributes Haddie’s smart and resilient personality to making the process possible.
The adorable pooch, Haddie, may look different due to her medical condition, but she is just like any other canine on the inside. According to her owner, Erin Williams, Haddie loves playing with other dogs in the local park and gets all excited by doing a funny hop. The social butterfly adores human attention and expects ear scratches from everyone. Although Haddie has to wear medicated sunscreen when going out, she is still an ordinary furry companion. Although some people may stare or ask questions about her appearance, Erin is pleased that most individuals are kind and friendly towards Haddie. Her love for life shines through, making it hard not to adore her.
Erin Williams has gained a newfound appreciation for life’s small pleasures thanks to the teachings of Haddie.
Erin Williams’ dog, Haddie, has a contagious personality that can make strangers smile. Although they occasionally receive rude comments or uneasy looks, Erin believes that those who don’t get to know Haddie are missing out. Moreover, Haddie has helped Erin cope with depression by encouraging her to go on walks and sharing fun afternoons napping. Erin has set up Instagram and TikTok accounts for Haddie, where she has found an incredibly kind and supportive community.
